Today’s commentary will focus heavily on the middle east, with a brief detours in other hot spots.
There’s been a massacre in northern Iraq. Which Mr. “No Boots on the Ground” will do nothing about. There are people predicting the country will split, so we’ll end up with Sudan and Northern Sudan. It will likely disintegrate, influenced at least in part by Obama’s indifference. Many are worrying that ISIS or ISSA or ISIL or whatever acronym the terrorist groups are using today will use Iraq as a new launching pad for terrorism. John Kerry has urged the Kurds to stop it – which, uh, if the US can’t, I’m not sure what he thinks the Kurds will do. (And why would they listen to John Kerry?) He’s also insisting any decision will not happen “in a vacuum“. Pretty sure most USA allies pulled out of Iraq already. It is an unwinnable thing, an impossible mission.
They’re not going to do anything to help the journalists who were imprisoned. They won’t bestir themselves on behalf of people who deserve justice? Even with a large public outcry? Not a good sign.
If you live here and are Christian, you cannot say the word Allah. No, I’m not kidding. What a wonderful step forward for civil liberties. Wait, no, I meant the opposite.
91 more people were kidnapped. Do I really need to give commentary on that?
The Christian woman who was released from prison was detained trying to leave the country. The fight ain’t over yet. Pro-tip to the dictator states out there: If the people you really detest are actively attempting to leave, perhaps you should let them. Only a suggestion, however.
Seems to be at least partially responsible for the ISIS mess in Iraq. I don’t know much about why they let ISIS in, but there’s going to be serious consequences.
An editor was convicted of illegal phone hacking. Do I need to explain, in tiny words, why you should not be doing this? If it were to protect the people, that would be one thing – but this was pure celeb gossip. (I will never understand the Brit’s obsession with celebs. I don’t even understand the American obsession with celebs!)
There’s been a deadly attack in the Ukraine, which may put the cease fire in jeopardy. Putin: stop it. Go home.
